Number 31 Staff Pick Goes to: CHRISTINE FELLOWS – Burning Daylight:
First and foremost, this album had the best packaging/casing I have seen in a long time, so that made it an easy pick, but also the music is awesome. The CD came to us in a beautiful little book of Christine’s own poetry, the first half of which was her own written poetry, and the second half was the lyrics to her songs on this album, which are poems all of their own. Check out the title track, ‘Burning Daylight’ for a taste, then go pick up a copy of her book-album, the lyrics are beautiful and complemented so well by a serene set of background vocals, piano, and other harmonies. Art, music, and literature all wrapped into one. RH

Number 31 Staff Pick: RURAL ALBERTA ADVANTAGE ‘Mended With Gold’
Mended with Gold will be released to the public on Sept 30th. The highly anticipated 3rd album of the Toronto based band definitely does not disappoint. If ‘Terrified’, their pre-release single, was anything to judge this album by, the band will once again rocket to the top of the charts with this release. Rural Alberta Advantage creates a dialect of songs that are both fast paced in their percussion and vocals, but which have lyrics that speak to the softer moments in life – hometowns, heartbreaks, and down-to-earth lifetimes. Be sure to check out Mended with Gold on sept. 30th, or stop by CHMA anytime to have a listen to our advanced copy. -RH

Top 31 Pick – TWINK – Critter Club (Twink Tones)
Twink is the artists and musician Mike Langlie, along with his assortment of musical backings. One day Mike found an old toy piano at a thrift shop and from there Twink was born. 11 releases later, Critter Club is the musical soundtrack you would expect to hear if all of your stuffed animals came alive at night and joined the creatures of the forest in an enchanted rave. It is a weirdly magical acoustic compilation of tones both childish and cultured. Along with the toy instruments, this soundtrack includes more classical pieces such a the cello, flugelhorn, and violin, among many more. It is as weird as it sounds but in the best possible way, and definitely worth checking out this week.
