Modern Languages Professor Kristy Bell and the Owens Art Gallery’s Community Outreach and Education Coordinator Lucy MacDonald are co-curating Reading Room, an exhibition at the Owens Art Gallery set to open this Friday, 9 January, 2015.

“As a literature professor, typically, my focus is the content…I like the idea of thinking of that content in a different context… how is it wrapped up? How does the materiality inform the way we go back to the content?” says Bell.

The exhibit will feature books and book-like objects that participants will be able to leaf through, touch, and interact with.

Bell and Macdonald talk about the ideas behind the works, some of the “book-like objects” on display, and a series of events and workshops covering bookbinding techniques and the historical evolution of books. The full lineup of events can be found on the Owens Art Gallery website.

“Nothing To Infinity”: a collaborative work by Dave Dyment and Roula Partheniou that looks like books, but is really something else.
