This is the second of three installments in CHMA’s coverage of the debate between Mike Olscamp, Helene Boudreau, Bernard Leblanc, and Megan Mitton, the four candidates vying to represent Memramcook-Tantramar in New Brunswick’s Legislative Assembly. The questions and responses featured here come from the portion of the debate that covered environmental issues.

The first question fielded by the four candidates: what is your position on fracking?

A student submitted this question: What environmentally friendly initiatives will your party pursue?

A member of the public asked the candidates about their timeframes for a moratorium on fracking, and an explanation of how natural gas royalties should work.

Perhaps the most interesting question of the entire debate, an audience member asked: If your constituents had a different stance on fracking than your party has, would you vote according to your constituents’ interests or those of your party?

The question period was followed by five minutes of open debate, with candidates responding to each other’s statements on environmental issues.
