I spoke with both administration (Dr. Grant) and faculty (Dr. Michaelis and Dr. Fox) the day before negotiations resumed. A number of topics were covered, including whether the strike is about money, how students can engage with the bargaining process, and whether the administration’s proposed tenure review process can maintain academic excellence. Each interview was conducted separately, but both sides were asked similar questions.

It is clear from the interviews that there are still a number of major issues to work out on each side. For example, Dr. Grant expressed confusion as to why MAFA did not agree to the proposed tenure review process. While there are still major issues to resolve, both MAFA and administration expressed optimism about ongoing negotiations.
